Think of your book talk as a conversation. What would you say to a friend when you’ve finished a book and you want to make sure s/he reads it, too? It’s a good idea to include a little about the characters and plot, but not too much. Don’t spoil anything that happens in the book by giving it away.

Here are some options to think about:

Select just one favorite scene from the book that leads you to sum up the story.
Begin by asking a question that is related to the book.
Focus on a character and describe the plot or actions in the book from that character’s point of view; maybe even pretend you are the character.
Try to think of a “hook” – something unique about the book that makes your listeners want to read it right away.
Remember, tell them just enough to get them hooked on the idea of reading the book, but not enough to ruin the story for them.

Don’t forget to include the title and author of the book and your first name with last initial only when you post your comment. Otherwise, your comment/book talk will not be posted.
